A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY

Is my area a Sustainable community?

I live in Little Billing and my Lower Layer Super Output Area is Area N 016C . It is the area covered by my electoral ward. It is a little bit close to the definition of a 'sustainable community'.To some extent it resembles a sustainable community. It is a free crime and safety area. The records show a zero crime according to notifiable offences recorded by the Police between April 05 and March 06.
.
The department for Transport Core Accessibility indicators.
The other reason are the 2008 Core Accessibility indicators. The department for Transport Core Accessibility indicators for 2008 provide anumber of measures of accessibility by public transport, walking ,cycling, and car to seven service types; primary schools, secondary schools, further education,General Practitioners, hospitals, foodstores and emp[oyment. This makes my area a sustainable community.

GCSE and Equivalent Results.
GCSE and Equivalent Results for Young People by Gender, referenced by location of Pupil Residence according to September 07-August 08 reveal that both Girls and Boys at the end of KS4 had 5+ A*-G including English and Maths.

Community well being Social Environment.
Community well being Social Environment has a total of 1,509 of which 1,489 are christians and other religions. Only 26 do not belong to any religion. Houses in poor conditions are only 0,17%
according to the indeces of deprivation 2007. All houses in this area have central heating.

Health and provision
Health and provision of compound care , out of 1,511 persons count, 1,155 persons have general good health while 191 persons have general health not good.

Fire and Rescue Services.
Fire and Rescue Services between January 06 and December 06 were 17 of which 4 were fire accidents were fire delibarate.

Education, Skills and Training
What makes my area not a completely sustainable community are the indeces of deprivation 2007 underlying indicators: Education, Skills and Training which reflect a high number of adults did not enter skills.
Pollutants

The other crucial area which needs to be improved are pollutants. Sulfur and Benzene add up to 0,11 while Quality Nitrogen Dioxide Pollutants are 0,54. These pollutants are very high and need to be reduced.

  1. Your community sounds quite sustainable. I admire the fact that it was free from any recordd crime rates, that is rather impressive, however you did mention that 4 fires were stated as deliberately started- so those are crimes in themselves.

You have spoken abo the Transport Core Accessibility - in my community Milton Keynes, they are addressing transport at the moment and lots of money is being ploughed into the bus routes in particular, I was just wondering ow many bus routes your community has - how frequent are they and are they reliable? Also what is the cost?

Another point of interest is the high number of people in your community, which are of good health. That is high!!! However, you are quite right about polluntants being of concerned as this will then effect the health of your community if the issue is not addressed.

I was also interested to know as to whether or not your community recycles?

I do not want to offend you but in comparison to my community, your does not seem as sustainable!

  2. Mine is an old community compared to yours. Your town has just been built so it must be more sustainable than mine. About recycling surely that is one of the priorities my community is involved in. Every two weeks the recycling lorry collects the recyclable items for recycling.
