Sustainable transport

Is there a transport problem? Yes there is transport problem. Public transport compared to private transport has more disadvantages .I would like to see a sustainable transport but each day's commitment forces me to use private transport because I race with time. Public transport : buses, trains, aeroplanes and ships have timetables and fixed routes. They also have fixed busstops, train stations, airports and harbours. They are not easily accessible when one wants to use them. Worse off when one has luggage. Instead they end up being expensive, time wasting and hectic depending on your destination. Even short trips can be exhausting.Public transport at times is not reliable as some trips have been cancelled leaving people stranded.

I have at times tried to be sustainable by using public transport going for my lectures. Ilive in Northampton in Little Billing. When I reflect, those are the days I have arrived late for my lectures. A 20 minute journey by private transport, usually takes about one and a half hours from my place to the Park Campus by bus. I use Stagecouch no.16 from my place then connect at the Booth near Northampton College where I get Stagecouch no. 7 which goes straight to the Park Campus. Now considering families plying the same route, children ,daddy and mum , it will be cheaper using private transport if the family owns a car, and safe for vulnerable children from bullying children and peadophiles. Lifestyles make people use private transport for example the bigshorts to show off their flushy cars.

So what are my views??.......A million dollar question.

The more cars we use the more land is wasted for the expansion of roadnetworks, parking spaces. Land does not grow ,nature is being destroyed ,cutting down trees and grass yet we need the environment to protect soil erosion. The more fuel these cars burn the more emissions of green house gases are polluting air. The ideas from Headicar (2009) for sustainable transport are that, there could be community car schemes operated by a pool of volunteer drivers using their own private cars catering for pre-arranged journeys by individuals who can not use public transport typically for sociall necessary journeys such as to hospitals and other health facilities. He suggests also community bus services-social and community organisations using minibuses which don't use timetables . They rank like buses and have permits to operate and routes to follow. The difference is that once they are full they pulloff. I go along with the idea as it sounds sustainable. My view is on shopping .We can cut on travelling for shopping especially groceries by ordering goods on line. Big supermarkets like Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury do door to door delivery.Isn't that sustainable?
